I know I'm in the minority of Dodgers fans when I say this, but I loved having Jeff Kent on the team and today he officially announced his retirement at a Dodger Stadium press conference. My fantasy baseball team has been named "Jeff Kent's Mustache" for the past few years and I'm afraid I may have to retire that name this season. I'll miss his hard nosed old school approach to the game, and his truthful and often hilarious insight in his rare postgame interview appearance. Part of his charm was his jerk attitude which I think many didn't understand.
Personality aside, based on his numbers at his position, he should be a 1st ballot hall of famer. I joked earlier it would've been cool if he choked someone and stormed out of the press conference. Or perhaps he could call out Kemp and the youngsters one last time? In actuality it turns out he actually shed a tear during Coletti's introduction as well as his speech.
As an aside, I always thought it was funny how players "announce" their "retirement announcement".
