The Associated Press has
ridiculed Pat Robertson's claim that he can leg press 2000 lbs. as
I did before as well.
Clay Travis of CBS SportsLine.com called the 2,000-pound assertion impossible in a column this week, writing that the leg-press record for football players at Florida State University is 665 pounds less.
"Where in the world did Robertson even find a machine that could hold 2,000 pounds at one time?" Travis asked.
Andy Zucker, a strength-training coach at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, said leg presses of more than 1,000 pounds represent "a Herculean effort, and 2,000 pounds is a whole other story."
UPDATEThey have now posted a video of his "leg press", and its comical. (
Click on "Watch a video ...") Its a real leg press machine all right, the weights come close to adding to 1000 lbs.
Warning: I almost spit coffee all over my monitor after watching this.
It starts with a young lady who "pretends" to fail at pressing 90 lbs. (hold your laughter, it gets better), then she lets Pat have a go at it, and thats where the video gets really hilarious. (keep in mind 90 lb leg press is something ANYONE could do)
1. His range of motion of his legs is less than 7 inches
2. He cheats by putting his arms on his knees, and pushes down
3. He has his feet together on the base of the machine
So overall his form is completely ridiculous.
As Lou said, "I'll give the old guy credit for staying in shape, and trying to inspire his fans to do so as well, but you have to wonder about the mental health of an old guy who has to make impossible claims, and then proudly back them up by cheating while one of his acolytes makes a show of fearing for his health.
After all, if a healthy young woman struggles to leg press 90 pounds, why, how would a man in his 70s lift 10 times that much without hurting himself?"
Sigh.
